Inland leg after customs release
Ocean & Import — the Inland Leg
Portlandia Logistics is not an ocean carrier, NVOCC or customs broker. What we can do is move the container or its freight inland after it has cleared — drayage from the terminal, transload where needed, and domestic delivery to the door.
The scope we can own
Terminal appointment, chassis, drayage to the first destination, empty return inside free time, a transload into domestic equipment where the receiver cannot take a container, and LTL or FTL delivery from there. Each leg is priced and named, and the free-time clock is tracked against the return date.
The handoff to your forwarder
Your forwarder or broker handles the ocean leg, entry and release. We need the container number, terminal, release status and the receiving window. We will not tell you a container will move before it is released, and we will not claim a customs capability we do not have.
Why split the scope
Because an inland carrier cannot fix a customs hold and a customs broker cannot recover a missed terminal appointment. Naming which party owns which step is what keeps a demurrage claim from becoming an argument about who was responsible.
