Trailer placement instead of live loading
Drop Trailer
Drop trailer means the trailer sits at your dock for a loading or unloading window instead of a driver waiting live. It solves a real dock constraint — as long as availability, detention terms and who owns the trailer are settled before it drops.
What drop trailer is good for
High-volume docks that load over several hours, receivers with unpredictable unload times, and shippers who cannot hold a driver live. It converts a detention dispute into a scheduled placement.
What has to be agreed first
The placement date, the free window, the detention rate after it, who is responsible for the trailer while it sits, and the pickup date after loading. Those terms are named on the rate confirmation — not discovered when the trailer is finally pulled.
When live loading is the better answer
One or two pallets, a dock that loads in under an hour, or a lane where no carrier will commit a trailer. In those cases the drop-trailer premium buys nothing. Dispatch will say which one the lane supports.
What is included
- Trailer placement for loading or unloading windows
- Free window and detention rate named up front
- Carrier and trailer identified before placement
